Section 1

Preface & Scope

Regular, scientific maintenance is the cheapest downtime insurance you can buy. It reduces mechanical failure rates, extends the service life of precision equipment and keeps your line running stably through mass production. This guide is the standard we expect every operator and maintenance technician to follow.

Which Machines This Guide Covers

  • SMT placement machines (chip mounters)
  • Automatic soldering equipment
  • Glue dispensers / dispensing machines
  • AOI optical inspection instruments
  • PCBA testing machines

It Is Not Optional

All factory operators and maintenance personnel must strictly follow the daily, weekly and monthly standards in this document. Improper manual maintenance that violates the operation manual means that the fault it causes is not covered by the free warranty.

Section 2

Daily Maintenance — Before & After Production

Daily maintenance is completed by the operator before and after every production shift — it takes minutes and prevents the most common failures: clogged nozzles, contaminated optics, foreign matter on the rails and mis-recorded faults.

Before Startup — Every Day

  • Check the factory power supply, air pressure and water circulation system: voltage must be stable and air pressure must meet the equipment’s technical parameters.
  • Inspect the surface of transmission guide rails, conveyor belts and linear modules; remove foreign matter such as PCBA scraps, solder residues and plastic debris.
  • Check whether sensors, optical lenses and cameras are covered with dust; wipe the lens gently with a professional dust-free cloth to avoid blurred recognition and component positioning deviation.
  • Confirm that all safety protective doors and emergency stop switches work normally, to prevent safety accidents during operation.

After Daily Production

  • Turn off the power and air source in the correct shutdown sequence, and wait for the mechanical spindle to stop completely before cleaning.
  • Clean the nozzle, feeder, solder nozzle and glue valve; remove residual solder paste, solidified glue and metal burrs to prevent clogging and mechanical jamming.
  • Clean the waste box, flux recycling box and dust collection box, and empty all production waste.
  • Wipe the equipment shell and operating touch screen, and keep the working environment dry and dust-proof.
  • Fill in the daily equipment operation log, and record abnormal noise, positioning deviation and small faults in a timely manner.

Section 3

Weekly Deep Maintenance — Every 7 Production Days

Carried out every 7 production days. Deep maintenance is what protects positioning accuracy — lubricate, tighten, clean and calibrate before small deviations turn into scrap boards.

  • Lubricate all linear guide rails, ball screws and rotating bearings with the designated high-temperature grease. Do not use inferior lubricating oil — it causes precision wear.
  • Tighten the fixing screws of the motor, fixture and worktable, so loose parts cannot cause positioning errors during high-speed operation.
  • Clean the filter element of the air compressor and the water filter, replace blocked filter cotton, and keep air intake and water circulation smooth.
  • Calibrate XY axis running accuracy, component positioning coordinates and the optical recognition benchmark; correct slight deviations to guarantee the assembly precision of PCBA products.
  • Check the circuit connection of the main control cabinet and clean accumulated dust from the circuit board with a cold air blower, preventing short circuits caused by dampness and dust.
  • Inspect the wear of conveyor belts, rollers and transmission chains; replace severely worn accessories in advance to avoid sudden breakage during production.
04

Section 4

Comprehensive Overhaul — Every 30 Working Days

Once every 30 working days. This is the electrical and mechanical deep service that a weekly routine cannot reach — component-level inspection, sealing checks and program backups.

  • Conduct a full inspection of core electrical components — servo motors, drive modules, solenoid valves and power supply modules — and test operating current and temperature to eliminate hidden troubles.
  • Disassemble and clean the precision moving mechanism, remove internal oil dirt and metal powder, and re-add lubricant at the standard dosage. This step covers the external moving mechanism named in your operation manual.
  • Not part of this step: the precision spindle, the optical camera and the control modules. Those are serviced only by our engineers, so leaving them untouched is correct and does not affect your warranty.
  • Check the sealing performance of air cylinders and oil cylinders, and replace aging sealing rings to prevent air leakage and oil leakage.
  • Back up the machine system program, parameter file and product production program, to avoid data loss caused by system failure.
  • Test the safety protection system, including overload protection, anti-collision protection and the emergency stop function.
  • Count the loss of wearing parts, make a spare parts plan, and stock nozzles, seals, filter elements and other consumables in advance.
05

Section 5

Long-Term Storage Maintenance — Over 15 Days Idle

If the equipment stops running for more than 15 days, storage maintenance takes over — otherwise humidity, rust and permanent belt deformation will greet you on restart day.

  • Clean the whole machine thoroughly, remove all residues, and coat the metal shaft and precision fixtures with anti-rust oil.
  • Lift the conveyor belt to keep it relaxed, avoiding permanent deformation caused by long-term compression.
  • Cut off the main power supply, cover the equipment with waterproof and dustproof tarpaulin, and place it in a dry, constant-temperature warehouse without corrosive gas.
  • Turn on the power and run the machine for 1 to 2 hours every two weeks, to prevent the circuit board from becoming damp and the mechanical parts from rusting.

Section 6

Forbidden Operations That Damage Equipment

These five operations damage equipment and are explicitly forbidden. In several cases they also void the warranty — the cost is always higher than the shortcut.

  • Do not blow dust off the circuit board with high-pressure hot air — it burns out precision chips.
  • Do not arbitrarily adjust motor speed, running stroke or system parameters without guidance from our technical engineers.
  • Do not use water to flush the interior of the electrical cabinet — it causes short circuits and permanent damage to electrical components.
  • Do not operate the equipment in an environment of excessive dust, high humidity, voltage fluctuation or violent vibration.
  • Do not disassemble the precision spindle, optical camera or original core components without authorisation — private disassembly voids the warranty.

Maintenance Records & Engineer Support

Records are what make a warranty claim fast. Keep the documents, and when precision calibration, mechanical disassembly or program debugging goes beyond your team, bring in our engineers.

Keep Complete Maintenance Records

  • The buyer shall keep complete maintenance records: daily cleaning, weekly calibration and monthly overhaul documents.
  • We check these records when handling warranty applications — a documented maintenance history keeps claims fast and undisputed.

When To Call Our Engineers

  • Precision calibration, mechanical disassembly and program debugging: contact our technical team by email or WhatsApp — we provide 24/7 remote maintenance guidance.
  • Paid on-site overhaul service: apply for engineer on-site inspection and full machine maintenance according to your production plan.

Printable Maintenance Record Template

This is the record we check when a warranty claim comes in. Print one sheet per machine, keep it with the machine log, and let the operator sign it after every cycle in Sections 2 to 5. A sheet with the date, the step and a signature is enough — no extra software needed.

Questions

Maintenance FAQ

The eight questions operators and plant managers ask most often.

How often should SMT equipment maintenance be carried out?

Daily before startup and after production, deep maintenance every 7 production days, a comprehensive overhaul every 30 working days, and storage maintenance if the machine stops for more than 15 days.

What happens if we do not follow the maintenance standards?

Improper manual maintenance that violates the operation manual means that the fault it causes is not covered by the free warranty. Disassembling the precision spindle, optical camera or original core components without authorisation voids the warranty.

Do we need maintenance records?

Yes. The buyer shall keep complete maintenance records, including daily cleaning, weekly calibration and monthly overhaul documents. We check these records when handling warranty applications.

Can your engineers help with calibration and debugging?

Yes. Contact our technical team by email or WhatsApp for 24/7 remote maintenance guidance. We also provide paid on-site overhaul service: engineer on-site inspection and full machine maintenance scheduled around your production plan.

Which machines does this maintenance guide cover?

SMT placement machines (chip mounters), automatic soldering equipment, glue dispensers and dispensing machines, AOI optical inspection instruments and PCBA testing machines. The same daily, weekly, monthly and storage cycles in Sections 2 to 5 apply to all of them.

What do we need to have on hand for the weekly deep maintenance?

High-temperature grease for the linear guide rails, ball screws and rotating bearings, a professional dust-free cloth for the optical lenses and cameras, a cold air blower for the control cabinet boards, and replacement filter cotton for the air compressor filter element and the water filter. Do not use inferior lubricating oil — it causes precision wear.

Can we carry out the monthly overhaul ourselves?

Yes for the checks listed in Section 4: electrical component inspection, cleaning the precision moving mechanism, sealing checks, program and parameter backup, and the safety-system test. Precision calibration, mechanical disassembly and program debugging go beyond that — contact our technical team for 24/7 remote guidance or the paid on-site overhaul.

How should the machine be kept if production stops for more than 15 days?

Clean the whole machine and coat the metal shaft and precision fixtures with anti-rust oil, lift the conveyor belt so it is not compressed, cut the main power supply, cover the machine with a waterproof and dustproof tarpaulin and store it in a dry, constant-temperature warehouse without corrosive gas. Switch the power on and run the machine for 1 to 2 hours every two weeks.
