Your SMT Feeding Challenges — Solved

Why manufacturers worldwide are switching from manual feeding and generic feeders to JHIMS automated lens feeders.

❌ Common Problems

  • High rejection rate (5–15%) — lenses jam, scratch, or misalign during feeding
  • Labor costs spiraling — manual lens placement requires 2–3 operators per shift
  • Slow changeover (30+ minutes) — retooling between lens types wastes production hours
  • Generic feeders incompatible — limited to 1–2 channels, cannot handle diverse lens geometries
  • Poor after-sales support — 6-month warranty, no remote diagnostics
  • Inconsistent UPH — speed fluctuates, causing production bottlenecks

✅ JHIMS Solution

  • Rejection rate < 0.5% — patented dual-frequency vibration prevents jamming and scratching
  • One operator manages 4+ machines — fully automatic PLC control with optical fiber sensing
  • Changeover in < 5 minutes — quick-adjust rails and preset profiles for common lens types
  • 1–10 channels configurable — supports inner/outer three-feet and four-angle reflection lenses
  • 1-year warranty + lifetime support — remote video diagnostics and on-site service available
  • Stable 0.5–1 sec/lens per channel — high-power four-way circular vibration system

How Vibratory Lens Feeding Technology Works

Vibratory bowl feeders use electromagnetic vibration to move and orient parts along a spiral track. The JHIMS DPS-2 employs patented dual-frequency direct vibration technology, which separates the circular vibration (bulk part movement) from the direct vibration (precision alignment). This dual-drive architecture eliminates the resonance interference common in single-drive feeders.

Key Technical Concepts:

  1. Circular Vibration (Bowl Drive): A high-power four-way electromagnetic system generates controlled helical motion, moving lenses upward along the spiral track. The four-way design distributes force evenly, preventing dead zones.
  2. Direct Vibration (Linear Track): A separate dual-frequency driver delivers precision alignment pulses. The dual-frequency approach keeps amplitude stable across varying load conditions — a JHIMS patent.
  3. Optical Fiber Induction Jog: Keyence/Omron fiber optic sensors positioned at critical track points detect lens presence in real-time. When a gap is detected, the PLC signals a “jog” pulse to advance the queue without disrupting alignment.
  4. PLC Preset Profiles: The Mitsubishi FX5U PLC stores up to 50 preset profiles. Each profile remembers vibration amplitude, frequency, track width, and sensor thresholds for a specific lens type. Profile switching takes under 3 seconds via the HMI touchscreen.
  5. Tool-less Quick Change: Track width adjustment knobs, tool-less bowl insert swaps, and magnetic sensor mounts enable complete lens-type changeover in under 5 minutes.

SMT Lens Feeder Manufacturing & Quality Control Process

Every DPS-2 unit undergoes a rigorous 7-stage manufacturing and QC process before shipment. This guide explains how JHIMS ensures consistency across every machine delivered.

Manufacturing Stages:

  1. Incoming Material Inspection (IQC): All raw materials — aluminum castings, steel rails, servo motors, sensors — are inspected against JHIMS specification sheets. Certificates of Conformance (CoC) are archived per machine serial number.
  2. CNC Machining: Bowl tracks and mounting surfaces are precision-machined on 5-axis CNC centers to ±0.02mm tolerance. Surface finish is verified with profilometer measurement.
  3. Sub-Assembly: Pre-assembled modules (bowl + track, control cabinet, pneumatic manifold) are built in parallel on dedicated workstations.
  4. Final Assembly: Modules are integrated on a calibrated assembly jig. All fasteners are torqued to specification with digital torque wrenches. Wiring harnesses are tested for continuity before connection.
  5. Burn-in Test (48 Hours): Every machine runs continuously for 48 hours with 500–800 customer-supplied lens samples. Vibration stability, speed consistency, and rejection rate are logged every 30 minutes.
  6. Final QC Inspection: A 120-point checklist covers mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software systems. Results are documented in the machine’s birth certificate, shipped with the unit.
  7. Packaging & Shipment: Vacuum-sealed moisture barrier, reinforced plywood crate with shock indicators, and full export documentation including Form E/F for duty preference.
